Since its emergence in 1976 as the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, the city of Abuja has witnessed different past FCT ministers overseeing the affairs of the capital city.

According to the Nigerian constitution, an FCT minister is to be appointed by the Federal Government to oversee the activities and administration of the region under the aegis of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Current FCT Minister In 2023

The current FCT Minister is Nyesom Wike Ezenwo (CON). Wike was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on August 16, 2023, to administer and steer the ship of the Federal Capital Territory. He works alongside Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure who is the current Minister of State for FCT. Before this position, Nyesom Wike was the previous Governor of Rivers State.

Wike took over from Muhammed Musa Bello who was appointed by President Buhari in 2015 and stayed in office till 2023.
